Weekly Wrap-Up: 25 October 2019

weekly wrap up new

Happy Friday! I can’t believe that we’re nearly at the end of October. Halloween is coming up, I’ve got bookish plans for the weekend, and I’ve been reading up a storm! This week, I’ve managed to read the same number of books as I did in the month of September. Crazy, huh?

Sci-fi and fantasy haven’t been on the agenda much, but I’ve been tearing through some great books anyway.

Books I read

One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

Thornhill by Pam Smy

The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold

I read five books this week, two of which were audiobooks (I’ve gone a little audiobook mad this month). I enjoyed all of these books, but the strongest was definitely The Five, while the weakest was The ABC Murders. I’m a little behind on reviews (what else is new?) but you’ll see reviews of all these books soon!

Books I bought

War Girls by Tochi Onyebuchi

Binti: The Complete Trilogy by Nnedi Okorafor

A Song for a New Day by Sarah Pinsker

The Thing Itself by Adam Roberts

We Are the Dead by Mike Shackle

You know, I was doing so well with not buying books. I hadn’t bought anything in about a month when suddenly, GollanczFest happened. This was an event held by the publisher at Foyles and various authors did panels and talked about their books and writing experiences. Foyles also happens to be close to Forbidden Planet, so that happened too.

Oops.

Book post

Realm of Ash by Tasha Suri

The Pursuit of William Abbey by Claire North

The Unspoken Name by A. K. Larkwood

Warrior of the Altaii by Robert Jordan

The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen

Gamechanger by L. X. Bennett

The book post gods have smiled upon me this week! I was fortunate enough to receive some amazing packages from Orbit and Tor Books! The books I’m most excited for are Realm of Ash (I may have shrieked when I opened it) and Warrior of the Altaii! I also cannot wait to read The Unspoken Name, which I requested. The others arrived unsolicited and I am looking forward to learning more about them!

That’s it for this week, folks! What did you get up to this week? Read anything good? Get any new books? Let me know!
