Happy New Year, everyone! 2019 was a great bookish year for me, and I closed it out by reading a load of great books (partially due to all the reading I did over the Christmas break). I read a total of 109 books in 2019 — check out what my final reads were, as well as the books I hauled in the last month of the year.
Books I read
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan (review)
The Toll by Neil Schusterman
Starsight by Brandon Sanderson
The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman
Prosper’s Demon by K. J. Parker (review)
The Shadow Saint by Gareth Hanrahan
Tilly and the Lost Fairy Tales by Anna James
The Night Country by Melissa Albert
Nemesis by Agatha Christie
King of Assassins by RJ Barker
The Woman in Black by Susan Hill
All Systems Red by Martha Wells
The Wicked + the Divine by Gillen McKelvie
I read a whole lot in December, due in part to the Christmas holiday. Overall, I managed to read 12 books last month, eight of which I read while at home for the holidays. There is a huge range of ratings here, from 5 stars to 2 stars. My favourites of the month were The Shadow Saint, Nemesis, and All Systems Red (which was a reread and I enjoyed much more on a second reading!).
Books I bought
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (hardcover)
Fallible Justice by Laura Laakso
A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison
The Last by Hanna Jameson
Moroda by L. L. McNeil
The Lost Ones by Anita Frank (Christmas giftcards)
The Vanishing Bride by Bella Ellis (Christmas giftcards)
The Woman in Black by Susan Hill (Christmas giftcards)
Deeplight by Francis Hardinge (Christmas giftcards)
Exhalation by Ted Chiang (Christmas giftcards)
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (Christmas giftcards)
A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Mandanna (2019 savings)
Priest of Lies by Peter McLean (2019 savings)
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (2019 savings)
The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones (2019 savings)
Woof. I brought in a ton of books this month! It’s not surprising due to the fact that it’s Christmas and I tend to get lots of books and giftcards, but this is definitely quite the haul. A few of these I bought as regular purchases, however I did get some with giftcards. I had also been saving £1 per book I read in 2019, and used that money to buy more books! I also invested in a few preorders that are not included here.
Book post
Wranglestone by Darren Charlton
Queen of Coin and Whispers by Helen Corocan
The Shadow Saint by Gareth Hanrahan
The God Game by Danny Tobey
The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep by H G. Parry
I was lucky enough to receive some amazing upcoming books in December! I have already finished The Shadow Saint, as you have seen above, and am currently working on The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep.
