Weekly Wrap-Up #19

Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, you guys!  We have a bank holiday weekend here in the UK, and I’m gearing up for a nice long weekend in London with my family.  It was a pretty dismal week for reading – I blame the fact that I reactivated my Eve Online subscription and rediscovered my love of knitting/crocheting.

What I read

Pocketful of Crows by Joanne Harris

I’m not going to lie – I powered through this last night so I could have something here for you guys!  This novella was inspired by an old folk song and Harris, a spectacular writer and storyteller, managed to keep that feeling throughout the book.  It’s out in October and I highly recommend it for some short Halloween reading.

What I’m currently reading

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee

I’m really loving The Lies of Locke Lamora!  Why do I sound so surprised?  I had tried to read it ages back on my Kindle, and it just didn’t work for me (I have this problem with eBooks sometimes).  At a friend’s encouragement, I picked it up again and I’m really enjoying it.  I love a good heist story, so this is basically the perfect book for me.  I’m hoping to read a bunch this weekend.

I finished my digital ARC last night, so I needed a new one.  The Thousandth Floor was a great option for a few reasons: it’s YA and will probably be a fast read, I have a physical copy of it as well, and the next book (which I also have a digital ARC of) is out soon!  I think this will be a quick, enjoyable read that will help me get my numbers up for the month!

What I bought

I had a little bookshop excursion this week.  You can check out my book haul post here.

NetGalley Approvals

Tarnished City by Vic James

Marriage Made Me Do It by Ashley Fontainne

The Autumn Throne by Elizabeth Chadwick

I’m really looking forward to all three of these!  Tarnished City is the sequel to Gilded Cage, which is currently sitting on my nightstand.  Marriage Made Me Do It gives me evil Stepford Wives vibes, which is fantastic.  Finally, The Autumn Throne was a very old request that’s finally been granted.  All three of these look great — I’m going to have to pick up the pace with my reading!

What I plan to read next

Shattered Minds by Laura Lam

The Hundredth Queen by Emily R. King

The Scandal by Fredrik Backman

This is kind of a useless section as I’m very much a mood reader, but ARC August is coming to a close!  I haven’t quite hit my reading goal yet – I’ve only read four of the six from the list I pulled together at the beginning of August — so this will be a final push.  These titles stood out to me the most, so I’m going to make a big effort to read at least one before the month is over.

That’s it for this week!  I am so ready for the long weekend, family, and doggies.

Dax has been practicing for all the undisturbed sleep she’ll get while I’m away.

What did you read this week?  Are any of these books in your TBR?  Are you planning something for the long weekend?  Let me know!

    1. She’s a major cutie, even if she’s a huge jerk too. She likes to squeak and bounce around at 4am (this is very fresh in my mind, in case you can’t tell).
