We interrupt your regularly scheduled TBR Thursday to bring you this month’s reading round up! August has come and gone much too quickly if you ask me. I can’t believe fall is almost here! Fall and winter are quickly becoming my favorite seasons. I’m a Southern California girl, but moving to the UK has made me appreciate the colder months. There’s just something about the cool weather – and it’s not just that it’s a great excuse to build a blanket fort and read books with a giant cup of hot chocolate (spoiler alert: my winter plans).

I realised last month that I wasn’t reading my advance copies fast enough (or at all, judging by last month’s round up). I stumbled upon ARC August, a month dedicated to reading down your ever-growing pile of ARC’s, and decided to participate. With that in mind, let’s see what this month was like for reading.
Books I read

There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins
Sea of Rust by C. Robert Cargill
Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed
Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody
The Diabolic by S. J. Kincaid
A Pocketful of Crows by Joanne M. Harris
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee
I read a total of eight books this month, which is slightly disappointing! I was really hoping to boost my numbers a bit and get to ten, but that’s fine. I’ve had a lot going on this month, including being really ill, so I’m still going to count this as a win. And surprise, most of these books have been reviewed! I told you all I was going to get better about that.
I think my favorite books this month were The Lies of Locke Lamora and Daughter of the Burning City. They’re two very different fantasy books, but both fantastic in their own right. You can click the link above to see my review of Daughter of the Burning City, an a review of Locke Lamora is coming up!
Books I am currently reading

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Shadow and Bone is of course fantastic so far– I’ll read anything Leigh Bardugo writes. With The Language of Thorns coming out next month, I needed to read the Grisha trilogy. Bardugo is a queen and I can’t wait to get immersed in this world again.
I’m only reading one book right now (I know, shock and awe) because I finished The Thousandth Floor late last night. I have lots of thoughts on it and have already have had to delete two rants from this post. I’ll sort out my feelings and get a review up soon.
Books I bought

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
Not bad! I went on the Ninja Book Box bookshop crawl at the beginning of the month, where I got the first three on the list. Last week, I had a little trip to the bookshop and picked up the remainder — you can check out my bookshop haul post here.
Book post

The Dark Net by Benjamin Percy
I got one book in the post this month couresy of Bookbridgr! I saw some great early reviews for The Dark Net and decided to take a chance. I’m planning to get cracking on this one soon.
That’s it for this month! I’m really pleased with the number of ARC’s I managed to read. Five out of the seven books I read this month went toward my ARC August goal. I’m hoping to keep the momentum going next month — I’ll have a little think and come up with September strategy post.
