September TBR Strategy

It’s the first of September and that means two things – I’ll have to start wearing a jacket to work and it’s time for this month’s reading strategy!  I really love doing these post because they help remind me of what’s been hiding in my TBR pile and gives me a little nudge of motivation.

This month

I had planned in my August strategy post to read ten books, but only managed to read eight.  Participating in ARC August was a great way of reading down a portion of my towering digital TBR pile, so I’m going to keep the momentum going and pick an ARC list, complete with publication dates, and a physical book list.

ARC list

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles (09 February)

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman (04 May)

Dare to Fall by Estelle Maskame (27 July)

STAGS by M. A. Bennett (10 August)

The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee (07 September)

Invictus by Ryan Graudin (21 September)

Satellite by Nick Lake (05 October)

My goal with ARC’s this month is to keep up to date with new stuff releasing, but also to dig back into the pile and work through some older ones — it’s pretty clear that I’ve fallen behind a bit.  I obviously won’t get to all of these this month, but I’d really like to read 4-5 of them.

I think I’m most excited for A Gentleman in Moscow, which will be a welcomed change of pace, and Invictus.  I haven’t read anything by Ryan Graudin before, but I know she’s a very popular author.  It’s about time I get on board.

Physical book list

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams

Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

Shadows of Self/Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson

Gilded Cage by Vic James

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

I’ve pulled these straight from the TBR pile next to my bed.  Again – I’m not going to read all of them, but I’d be thrilled to get through five this month.  Gilded Cage and Nevernight are both priorities because I have ARC copies of both their sequels – yikes.  I finished Shadow and Bone last night, so I pulled Siege and Storm out as my next read.

You may have noted quite a lot of Sanderson/Mistborn here.  My lovely book club is reading Mistborn for our October meetup!  I’ve read the original trilogy and the first book in the following trilogy – The Alloy of Law.  In preparation for getting overly excited about these books again, I’m planning to finish off the second trilogy with Shadows of Self and Bands of Mourning.  It’s about time I finish these up.

So there’s the plan for this month.  Is it ambitious?  Probably.  Will I stick to it?  Probably not.  But I do refer back to these posts throughout the month, so that’s something at least.

What are you planning to read this month?  Do you come up with a TBR or strategy post to help you along?  Let me know!

    1. I find it really helpful for organising my thoughts before the month begins! Even though I rarely stick to my plan…

  2. I come up with a TBR list every month. It is nothing too long because I would never finish any of the book, but long enough that I have to push the limits. Creating a TBR list really helps motivate me!

    1. That’s a really good idea! I also find it motivating to create a TBR — so many books and so little time!
