Happy Friday! The weather is finally getting cold here in the UK — I have to wear a scarf to work! Winter is truly coming, you guys, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
Unfortunately with winter comes colds. I’ve been behind on reading and things due to an icky cold that knocked out my entire team — I was the last to get it. Despite that, I did do a bit of reading this week.
Book I read
The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury
I bought this at an event with the author last Friday. It was certainly an interesting read — it’s a much quieter book than most YA fantasy out here. The worldbuilding was lovely, the imperfect heroine a delightful breath of fresh air, and the overall plot was so refreshing. The fact that it is a quiet book means it is a ‘love it or hate it’ kind of book, and I think some of the criticisms are unfair. I didn’t think it was a perfect book, but it was a really lovely read and I’ve already picked up the second in the series.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
I’m working my way through my first ever read of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the book that inspired the film Blade Runner. I’m honestly not that far yet, but have plans to push through a fair bit this weekend!
I picked up Murder on the Orient Express last night on a whim. My mum is a huge fan of crime fiction, so we used to watch the old Hercule Poirot tv show. Murder on the Orient Express is one that stood out to me as a kid (and of course, that means I remember who the killer is), but I’m really looking forward to reading this book and getting the full experience. I’m pretty sure this is the second Agatha Christie book I’ve ever read, and I’m not even sure I should count the first one — I don’t even remember what it was!

OKAY I know that in my November TBR I said that I wasn’t going to buy any more books until the end of the year (with the exception of Oathbringer). But I was at an author event and then I was at Waterstones Piccadilly. Give me a break.
It’s officially Christmas in the I Should Read That household, as I begged to put the tree up on the 5th (it didn’t take much convincing). The kitties have their Santa hats, my list of presents to buy steadily grows, and I’m pulling together my own wish list.
I have been getting some weird reactions from people on my personal Facebook for having my tree up so early, so from now until April 2018, you’ll be able to see my damn tree in every single YouTube video I post!
Also if you complain about my own home being Christmassy, I’m going to sneak into your house and decorate the shit out of it. Also, possibly ridicule you for being a jerk.
