It’s the beginning of a new year and time to set your new reading challenges. Regardless of whether you track your reading through Goodreads or via spreadsheet, whether you have decided to stick to a single genre or expand your horizons throughout the year, many readers have a reading goal they want to reach by the end of the year. How do you track your reading habits?

In terms of a book count, I use Goodreads. I have been setting reading challenges ever since the site introduced them, but I never thought to track what books I read each year before then. It simply didn’t occur to me to track my reading until I realised it was a thing I could do.

Last year I set a goal of 60 books, but managed to read 102 (yes, I’m still bragging). I honestly am not sure I would have reached that number if I didn’t have a goal set in my mind. However, I decided to lower my reading goal for 2018 in order to focus on longer and more complex books. I feel like I really missed out on some amazing books last year, particularly in the last few months, because I was so desperate to meet my goal. Instead of reading as many books as I can in 2018, I plan to track the number of pages I read instead (something you can also do on Goodreads). This way, I can expand my reading beyond the young adult fantasy that dominated my 2017 reading list.
I’m aiming to read more non-fiction and longer fiction books in 2018, as stated in my reading resolutions post. I miss the unwieldy adult fantasy tomes that took over my life a few years back. I don’t want to shy away from reading giant historical fiction novels. I don’t want to pass over non-fiction titles while fretting over my reading goals. 2018 will be the year of expanding my reading horizons

So, how do you all track your reading? Do you aim to stick to a single kind of book or is your goal to read many different kinds of books? Are you planning to finish all those series you’ve started? Let me know how you plan to tackle 2018’s reading!
