Another week has come and gone! The weather here in the UK has cooled off a bit and we’ve (finally) been getting some rain! There’s no better reading weather than bleak and rainy.
Books I read
All Systems Red by Martha Wells
The Light Between Us by Katie Khan
I finished two books this week, and they both happen to be science fiction. All Systems Red is the first book in the Murderbot Diaries series. I loved the idea of this book in theory — Murderbot is a security android that just wants all the dumb humans to leave them alone so they can watch soap operas — but I didn’t think it worked great in practice. I enjoyed it well enough and will probably continue on with the series, but only if the books are on sale — novellas are expensive!
I also read The Light Between Us, one of my most highly anticipated books of the year. After reading and loving Hold Back the Stars in 2017, Katie Khan became an auto-buy author for me. I really liked this book and the themes it explores, but I do think I preferred the first book simply because the futuristic setting is more appealing to me. However, it was so fun to see Oxford featured in a sci-fi novel!

Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix by Julie C. Dao
I’m currently reading three books, which is not bad for me. Foundryside is my main read at the moment, and I’m nearly halfway through. It’s a weird experience jumping from one series to another by the same author, but I’m liking it so far. I’m also working on Nevernight on audiobook and I totally understand why everyone loves this series so much. I’ve already got plans to listen to Godsgrave next! Finally, I’m making very slow progress on Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix, but only because I had an impending deadline for Foundryside. This is the next physical book I’m planning to dedicate my full attention to!

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
I cannot tell you how excited I am to be approved for The Hunting Party! It looks like the exact kind of crime novel I love — Scotland, murder amongst friends, and a blizzard trapping everyone, including the murderer. I’m getting The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle vibes from this book, but I don’t know if that will actually be accurate. This book comes out in January 2019, but I’m planning to read it ASAP!
