Weekly Wrap-Up: 07 June 2019

weekly wrap up new

Happy Friday all! This is an especially happy Friday because my birthday is tomorrow! I’m really looking forward to spending time with some of my favourite people* while celebrating my 31st year. How fun!

This has been an interesting week for reading because I feel like haven’t read too much! But am currently reading a couple of great books, and I set a TBR for the month of June that I’m working toward finishing!

Books I read

Jade City by Fonda Lee

This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

Okay, I’m cheating a little bit here. Jade City I finished earlier this week and WOW what an amazing book! I had high expectations going in because everyone seems to love Jade City, but those expectations were surpassed. A great world, magic system, characters, and twisty plot. I’d highly recommend this one.

I technically haven’t finished This is How You Lose the Time War yet, but only have a few pages to go and will probably be done this afternoon. I’m choosing to count it for this week. It’s super weird and disjointed, but that works so perfectly for the story. I’m really enjoying this one!

Reviews forthcoming!

Books I am currently reading

Embers of War by Gareth L. Powell

Atlas Alone by Emma Newman

I’m currently reading two books — one physical book and one audiobook. I’m nearly halfway through Embers of War, which I’m really enjoying, and am about three hours into the audiobook for Atlas Alone, which Emma Newman herself narrates!

Can you tell I’m in full sci-fi mode?

Books I bought

Middlegame by Seanan McGuire

I have been wanting to read more of Seanan McGuire’s books ever since reading (and mostly loving) her Wayward Children series. She’s written a ton of stuff, but Middlegame is the one that caught my eye. I treated myself to a copy as an early birthday present because why not?

Book mail

Crowfall by Ed McDonald

Knight of Stars by Tom Lloyd

Wicked Fox by Kat Cho

I’ve had some amazing book post this week! I am going to try to cram Crowfall and Wicked Fox into my June TBR if possible. Knight of Stars was a slight hiccup for me, as I didn’t realise it was the third book in a series! Fortunately Asha is coming to my rescue and lending me the first two.

Birthday presents!

Emily Eternal by M. G. Wheaton

Embers of War by Gareth L. Powell

The Furies by Katie Lowe

My birthday started early! Last weekend I was over at my parents’ house celebrating my and my mum’s birthdays, as we are only a couple weeks apart. I got some books and a Waterstones gift card! These are all books I’ve wanted for ages, but haven’t managed to get for myself. Hooray!

That’s it for this week! Let me know what you read this week, if you got any new books, or what your plans are for the weekend!

  1. «Embers of War» sounds very interesting. Will you be reviewing it here on the blog? 🙂
Also, your cats are adorable! I have four, one of them is black as well. (she is the mean one of the family, ahah)

Eee! I’m jealous of your four — Husband and I have to keep restraining ourselves from getting a third 😀

  2. So glad you liked JADE CITY! I’m curious about THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR, but I’m so swamped in other ARCs that I’ll probably wait a bit to seek it out. I’m getting an ARC of Wicked Fox and I’m really looking forward to that one!

    1. It’s really good but man is it fucking weird. Super bizarre and lyrical. I liked it though!
