We’re time traveling again — August feels like it absolutely flew by! September is here now, and it’s time to look back on the books that I read last month. It was a great month for reading, despite two DNFs, and I have found some new favourite books of the year!
Books I read
Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (review)
The Starlight Watchmaker by Lauren James (review)
The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow
City of Lies by Sam Hawke
The House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
Blood of an Exile by Brian Naslund (review)
Mooncakes by Susan Walker and Wendy Xu
Priest of Bones by Peter McLean
Wonderland: An Anthology edited by Marie O’Regan and Paul Kane
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
Jade War by Fonda Lee
I managed to read eleven books this month (!!!), and I have to say that I’m pretty impressed with myself! Not only did I actually complete my N.E.W.T.s, I read so many great books. Highlights of the month were City of Lies, The Ten Thousand Doors of January, The House of Salt and Sorrows, Priest of Bones, and Jade War (see? Lots of great books!).
I’m a little behind with reviews at the moment, but they’re coming soon — watch this space!
Books I DNFed
What She Found in the Woods by Josephine Angelini
American Royals by Katherine McGee
I ended up DNFing two books this month. Both were contemporary YA, which is not my usual genre of choice, but I was still so disappointed! What She Found in the Woods was billed as a thriller with a heavy romance element, but it just couldn’t keep my interest. American Royals looked like a great read, but I think it would have worked better as an adult book rather than a YA one.
Books I bought
The Dragon Republic by R. F. Kuang (review)
To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers (review)
The House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen
Zodiac by Romina Russell
The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold
Godblind by Anna Stephens
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter
Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan
Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan
Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan
I bought a lot more than I was intending this month! Fortunately, I’m doing okay in terms of my TBR, with two books already read and reviewed last month, one old favourite long since finished, and another read this month. This is a great list of books, if I do say so myself!
Book post
A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie
Deeplight by Frances Hardinge
Dragonslayer by Duncan M. Hamilton
Wonderland: An Anthology edited by Marie O’Regan and Paul Kane
Song of the Crimson Flower by Julie C. Dao
The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware
Wild Savage Stars by Kristina Perez
I received a lot of amazing books this month! I have been trying to cut down on review requests, but I just couldn’t resist some of these. A Little Hatred is high on my September TBR, as is Deeplight!
