March Reading Round-up

This is what I’ve been up to this month!  Buckle up, I spent a lot of time in bookshops.

Scottish Boyfriend groaned while taking this photo.  We are running out of shelf space.

Books read:

The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Luna: Wolf Moon by Ian McDonald

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers

I only read six books this month, down from 12 in February!  I think Luna: Wolf Moon was what held me back.  It was amazing, but definitely a slower read.  I also had a DNF for this month, The House of Mountfathom, which I reviewed here.

Overall it was a decent month!  I’ve yammered on about how much I loved The Collapsing Empire and disliked Heartless on the blog already.  Reviews are forthcoming for the Six of Crows duology and A Closed and Common Orbit (spoiler alert: they both made me cry).

Currently reading:

Red Sister by Mark Lawrence

1666 by Rebecca Rideal

I’m so glad I got my paws on an ARC of Red Sister.  I’m just over 20% in and it is absolutely fantastic!  Lawrence has really grown as a writer since Prince of Thorns and his work just keeps getting better.  I’ve only just started 1666, but it looks fantastic.  I’ve started reading more nonfiction as of 2016 and am really enjoying diving into history.

Books bought:

That Woman by Anne Seba

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

Girl Trouble by Carol Dyhouse

The Devonshires by Roy Hattersley

The Pursuit of  Love by Nancy Mitford

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

A Court of Thornes and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

The Private Lives of the Tudors by Tracy Borman

Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

Ink by Alice Broadway

The Romanovs by Simon Sebag Montefiore

At what point does this get embarrassing?  Should I be embarassed?  This was supposed to be No Buy March.  Ha.  I ended up with 16 new books.  My TBR pile is actually getting to the point where I’ll get seriously hurt if it falls on my head while I’m sleeping.  Someone send help.  Please.

Books obtained through other means:

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (lent to me by my fabulous coworker)

Find Me by J. S. Monroe (Free from London Book Fair)

1666 by Rebecca Rideal (book subscription from Hatchards)

That’s it, folks!  Have you read any of these?  What do you recommend?  Let me know!

  2. I’d really like to read The Devonshires as well as That Woman. Both seem to be right in my sweet spot of social history/biography.

    1. The Devonshires looks fantastic! I’m looking forward to diving into it. That Woman is problematic, which I plan to angrily post about soon.

  6. […] I might have gone a bit overboard with book buying this month.  As you all know, it was SUPPOSED to be No Buy March, but that clearly didn’t happen.  In order to actually have money for food and rent in April, I’m going to try to hold back a bit because buying bans clearly don’t work for me.  If you’d like a complete list of these books, check out my March roundup. 7. […] I can buy another one and continue to track titles that way.  Book bans don’t work for me, as seen in March, because they just make me want to rebel against my own rules and buy ALL the books […]
